SP x OP Connector: FAQs

Answers to common questions about the SP x OP Connector.

These answers cover the most common questions about the SP - OP Integration. For setup, see SP x OP Connector. For linking projects and mapping tools, see SPxOP Connector: Linking Projects and Mapping Tools.

The basics

What does the integration do?

When someone submits feedback on Social Point, Open Point creates an event for it on the linked project and connects it to a stakeholder profile. Social Point remains the home of the full submission.

Is it available to everyone?

It's currently available to selected customers. Contact Open Point Support to ask about access for your site.

How is it different from Data Connect?

Data Connect is a separate connection. If your Social Point site already uses it, it continues to work as before. The SP x OP Connector gives you more control over where your data goes in Open Point, including mapping answers to event fields and classifications.

Who can set it up?

An Enterprise Admin in Open Point maps stakeholder fields. A Team Leader on an Open Point project can link Social Point projects and map tools for that project.

Stakeholder profiles

When does Open Point create a stakeholder profile?

In three cases: when a member registers in Social Point, when a logged-in member submits a tool, and when someone who isn't logged in submits a tool that asks for an email address. The Auto-create stakeholders setting needs to be on during setup.

Do I need member registration on my Social Point site?

No. If someone who isn't logged in submits a tool that asks for an email address, Open Point can create a stakeholder profile from that email address.

What happens if the email address is blank?

Open Point can't connect the submission, and nothing is created for it. If the email question on your tool is optional, make it required so no submissions are missed.

What if a stakeholder profile with that email address already exists?

Open Point connects the submission to the existing profile instead of creating a duplicate.

What happens when a member's details change in Social Point?

Open Point fills in any empty fields on the matching stakeholder profile. It doesn't change existing values.

Projects and tools

Can I link more than one Social Point project to an Open Point project?

Yes. For example, you might link one for planning, one for construction, and one for maintenance.

Why don't I see one of my tools?

Only tools that are set up and published in Social Point appear. Select Refresh tools to fetch the latest list. A tool that is turned off is ignored, and no events are created from it.

Do I have to map every field?

No. Map only what's important. Unmapped fields are ignored.

Can I send a multiple-choice answer to a classification?

Yes. Create a classification in Open Point with the same options as the question, then map the question to it. You can then search and report on those answers in Open Point.

Can I merge several questions into one field?

Yes. Map each question to the same Open Point field, such as Summary. The answers appear in Social Point order, each as the question followed by the answer. You map each question separately, because there's no option to merge all questions at once.

How do I change a mapping later?

A Team Leader on the Open Point project can update project and tool mapping at any time. An Enterprise Admin can update stakeholder mapping at any time.

Events and submissions

How do I find the events the integration creates?

In Open Point, go to Search, open your events, and look for the event type Social Point Feedback.

Can I see the whole submission in Open Point?

No. Open Point holds the answers you've mapped, plus a link back to the submission. Select View in Social Point to open the full response. You need to sign in to Social Point.

How quickly do submissions appear in Open Point?

Usually, shortly after the submission is made. There's no guaranteed delivery time.

Are earlier submissions sent when I turn a tool on?

No. Open Point only applies submissions after a project and its tools are configured, and history from Social Point isn't brought across. Existing data isn't migrated automatically. Contact Open Point Support if you need help moving historical data.

What happens if I delete a submission in Social Point?

The event in Open Point isn't updated or removed.

Troubleshooting

What if I rename or delete a mapped field in Open Point?

A connector error appears in the Connector Errors section of the integration settings. Update the mapping to fix it.

What if I need to change my Client Secret?

Enter a new secret in the Client Secret field. After you save a secret, it isn't shown again.

Can I disconnect the integration?

Yes. Select Remove Integration in the integration settings. Existing stakeholder profiles aren't affected, but automatic syncing stops. Turning the feature off doesn't remove events already created from Social Point.

Is there single sign-on between the two products?

No. You need to sign in to Social Point to open a linked project, tool or submission, and people need access in both products to open a linked record.
